What are HR Coils?

The HR Coils or the hot rolled coils are basically made by continuously rolling the steel at a very high temperature, generally above 538 degrees C. During the process, metal sheets, produced from billets are passed through the roller at a temperature which is above the recrystallization of the metal. The metal sheets need to be passed through the rollers multiple times so as to achieve the desired dimensions of the coil. The hot rolled steel then goes through a cooling process during which it gets reconfigured to a more flexible and loose end product, when compared to the original.

Difference between HR & CR sheet?

The processing temperature of the HR and CR sheets is the point which defines the main difference between the two sheets. These sheets are processed at different temperatures which changes their overall characteristics and properties. Where the hot rolled sheet is processed at a temperature which is above the recrystallization temperature of the metal, for the cold rolled sheet the procedure is conducted below the recrystallization temperature of the metal. Also, the surface finish of both the sheets are quite different. The hot rolled steel has a more scaly surface and is non-oily, with edges and corners that are slightly rounded. For cold rolled steel, it has a greasy and smooth surface finish with sharp edges.

What is HR coil used for?

The HR coil is used for a wide range of applications, but they are primarily used for making pipes. These coils come with many direct industrial as well as manufacturing applications. For example, it is used in the construction of tanks, bicycle frames, railway cars, etc. The hot rolled coil is also used in important industries like shipping, engineering, and in constructing military equipment. One can also find these coils in different automobile equipment, truck wheel caps, pipes and LPG cylinders. They are also very famous in the construction industries.
