The A36 steel is a structural grade component. The A36 Steel Plate is designed with a superior composition of carbon, copper, iron, manganese, phosphorous, silicon, and sulfur. This gives these plates excellent corrosion and oxidation resistance properties. Designed with a density of 7.85 g/cm3, the Astm A36 Steel Plate is very strong, tough, and ductile. These plates are designed in thickness above 6mm or more. The low carbon Astm A36 Carbon Steel Plate can be easily machined and welded in place making use of standard welding procedures. These plates have superior strength and provide superior strength and stability in the system. The A36 Plate is produced with superior mechanical properties. These plates have a tensile strength between 400 to 550mpa with a yield strength of 250mpa. They can be elongated by 20%. A36 Steel Sheet is designed in thickness below 6mm and above 0.5mm. These sheets add an aesthetical appeal to different components.

The A36 Hot Rolled Steel Plate is processed by heating the plate in high-temperature mills till the metal attains its recrystallization value. This allows the plates to be easily formed and shaped in the system. A36 Cold Rolled Steel Plate is processed at room temperature soon after the hot rolling process. The processing of these plates gives them an excellent surface finish while giving them enhanced strength. The A36 Hot Rolled Steel Sheet is the most common processing type used in this range. A36 hot rolled vs cold rolled

Plates and sheets of the A36 grade are made using two different methods: hot and cold rolling.

  • The A36 grade cold rolled modules feature superior dimensional accuracy and tolerances. The surface of A36 Hot Rolled Steel Sheet is rough, with slightly rounded edges. Components that are hot rolled are less expensive than those that are cold rolled.
  • A36 Hot Rolled Steel Plate is treated in mills at high temperatures until it reaches its recrystallization value, which allows following modules to be made easily. After the hot-rolling process, A36 Cold Rolled Steel Plate is treated at room temperature. These modules are rolled for a better surface polish and tighter tolerances.

A36 steel vs grade 50

  • Grade 50 has a yield strength of 50,000 pounds per square inch and a tensile strength of 36,000 pounds per square inch. Modules of the A36 grade are more ductile than those of the grade 50.
  • The A36 grade is designed to have a maximum tensile strength of 80,000 psi, while grade 50 has a maximum tensile strength of 65,000 psi.
  • Grade 50 is a high-strength low alloy steel grade, while A36 is a structural carbon steel grade

Heat Treatment of A36 Plate

Heat Treatment

The following temperatures can be used to heat treat it:

  • Carburizing at 899°C – 927°C (1650°F-1700°F)
  • Annealing at 843°C – 871°C (1550°F-1600°F)
  • Normalizing at 899°C – 954°C (1650°F-1750°F)
  • Hardening at 788°C – 816°C (1450°F-1500°F)
  • Stress relieving at 677°C – 927°C (1250°F-1700°F)

 

 

Machining and Welding of A36 Cold Rolled Steel Plate

Machining

The typical surface putting feed rate is 120 feet per minute, while the machinery rate is at 72 percent. It is more difficult to machine than, say, 1018.

Welding

Weldability of A36 steel plate is good, and any welding procedure can be utilised. Welds and joints will be of excellent quality.

 

A36 Steel Sheet Advantages and Disadvantages

This grade is a versatile all-purpose steel because it is easy to mill, weld, and mould. When tested for tensile strength, it is fairly ductile and may extend to around 20% of its original length.

It offers good impact strength at room temperature due to its mix of strength and ductility. It may be heat treated without affecting its qualities due to its low carbon content. Because of the low quantities of nickel and chromium in A36 steel, it does not have a good corrosion resistance.
