The chemistry of this solution heat treated alloy contains 62% Nickel with significant additions of remaining elements such as 21.5% Chromium, 9% Molybdenum as well as 3.7% niobium. While the primary alloyant nickel makes it possible to be used at elevated temperatures, the addition of chromium content in the alloy is what prevents oxidation corrosion. This is seen especially when Alloy 625 has been exposed to air around seawater, by forming a passivated oxide layer on the surface of the plate. Moreover, it is this chemistry that makes the alloy well suited to be used in seawater, as it has immunity against getting attacked in such conditions.
