Manganese steel or Mangalloy is an alloy containing around 13% manganese in its concentration. The Manganese Steel Plates have a good chemical composition of carbon in their material grade. These plates exhibit excellent impact strength and abrasion-resistant properties. Manganese Wear Resistant Steel Plate shows enhanced resistance to sliding or impact wear or tear within these modules. The higher carbon content within the Manganese Steel Wear Plate gives these components enhanced toughness within the system. The high brittleness in these robust Manganese Wear Plate doesn’t allow these plates be machined readily due to their superior work hardenability properties. Manganese Jaw Plate can be machined or cut using plasma arc or laser cutting measures.

Standard Mn of Hadfield’s manganese grade is divided into three plate grades.
The Manganese Plate Grades are classified as
- Standard grade- Designed with a Mn content of 12% with 1.15% of carbon.
- Elevated grade- The grade possesses 19% Mn content with around 1.45% carbon content. It helps in improving the wear resistance in the grade.
- Lean grade- This grade has Mn levels of 5% to 7% and carbon content of 1%. The alloy also has 1.5% of molybdenum content, giving it enhanced corrosion and toughness.
Mn and 12-14 steels of Mn are two grades of Mn steel. The 12-14 manganese steel is a High Manganese Steel Plate. These modules offer enhanced toughness and mobility over standard manganese grades. The versatile Manganese 12-14 % Steel Plates & Sheets show enhanced resistance to abrasion over any standard Mn steel grade module.

Mn steel is a heat treatable alloy that reduces the hardness of the grade. A steel of Mn, when heated transforms, the austenite into ferrite restoring, the ductility of the work-hardened grade. These alloys are later annealed followed by subsequent quenching in the yellow heat. They don’t require to be further temper hardened and usually possess a Brinell hardness of around 200 HB.
Mn steel casting is a process wherein manganese is cast into dies and later separated by rapid cooling. These modules form strong alloys exhibiting both hardness and toughness. The casting of this alloy is simple, and it doesn’t form any gas pockets or blow holes as seen in carbon castings.

- X120Mn12 Mn steel has an austenitic structure and is non-magnetic.
- It is supplied water quenched at 950-1000N/mm2.
- It has a Brinell hardness of about 200HB in its current state.

Welding:

It is prone to distortion owing to local overheating because to its high coefficient of thermal expansion and low thermal conductivity, and welding should be done at a low thermal level. Welding from 300°C to 800°C is not recommended because carbide precipitation might induce embrittlement. Welding should be done with austenitic stainless consumables of the type E308Mo.
Forming:
Because the plate is ductile in its current state, forming is straightforward. A 2mm to 3mm chamfer should be ground along the edge to be created to prevent cracking on edges that have been work hardened by shearing. Forming should be completed in one operation to avoid work hardening.

Cutting:

Plasma arc or laser cutting procedures are preferred if a good edge quality is required. Cutting with a flame is possible, but the edge quality is poor. High Mn steel plate can be sheared, but the blades and machine must be in good working order, and the shear should not be run near its maximum rated capacity.
