The content of carbon in MS falls in between the range of 0.05% to 0.25% by weight. One of the main reasons mild carbon steel is appreciated by many manufacturers across industries that use it for structural projects is due to their superior weldability properties. Moreover, the cost for producing MS sheets, plates, coils and strips is lower making it a well received alloy. MS strips are generally well suited to be used for low temperature applications, especially in between the range of -29°C to 593°C. The tensile strength of MS plates is about 415 Mpa, whereas the allowable stress for this alloy grade works out to about 200 Mpa.

What is ASTM A36 Sheet?

The ASTM A36 is a specification that envelopes carbon grades such as mild steel intended to be used for structural projects. The different steel components are available in varying shapes such as plates, and bars. These structural quality steel grade sheets, plates, coils or strips are used in riveted, bolted, or welded construction of bridges and buildings, in addition to other general structural purposes. Heat analysis performed on the specified mild steel plates or sheets could be used to determine its chemical composition. Further evaluations carried out by the tension test are to conform to the required tensile properties, which in this instance are tensile strength, yield strength, as well as elongation.
