Quenched And Tempered Steels are hardened after processing the steels at constant temperatures. ASTM A710/ A514 Sheet, which is quenched is subsequently tempered giving its enhanced toughness and strength. Quenched And Tempered Steel Process

In the quenching process, the metal is heated at appropriate temperatures for a period of time and then rapidly cooled in a quenching medium. During this process, the module rapidly hardens and strengthens. The material becomes brittle after this long procedure.

To get rid of this problem, the metal is tempered. During this process, the metal is reheated at certain temperatures, followed by cooling. This is the last step in workpiece treatment to achieve greater rigidity by decreasing the hardness of the alloy. The reduction of hardness in these alloys helps in improving their ductility and reducing the brittleness of the metal.

It's crucial to note that the temperature and heating time vary based on the material's composition. The fabricator will be able to optimise the material so that it satisfies the specific hardness criteria by determining the proper temperature and time.
