Furthermore, in comparison to the more conventional chromium-nickel based stainless steels such as Alloy 304, the ASTM A240 Type 316 plate also offers a much higher creep strength. In fact, the high creep strength of SA 240 Gr 316 SS in combination with a higher stress-to-rupture property along with good tensile strength is the reason why ASTM A240 316 SS strips could be used at elevated temperatures.

With a shear strength of 50,000 psi and yield strength of 44 KSI, the SS Werkstoff No 1.4401 / 1.4436 can be made with a standard thickness ranging from 4.8 mm up to 152.4 mm. Not forgetting to mention the melting point of AISI 316 UNS S31600 which is between 2450 – 2630°F
