Alloy 321 Strip
Designed to combat the failure of mechanical and corrosion resistance properties, the ASTM A240 321 SS sheets were intended to be used in the chromium carbide precipitation range. At this range, the temperature could range anywhere between 1800 – 1500°F and un-stabilized alloys, for instance, grade 304 are subject to intergranular attack. However, with the modification in its chemistry, the SS Werkstoff No 1.4541 sheet has superior performance on occurrence of the chromium carbide precipitation range. The yield strength of SA 240 Gr 321 SS is about 280 Mpa, with its melting point falling between the temperature range of 2550 – 2635°F.The SUS 321 plates are available in standard thickness from 4.8 mm up to 101.6 mm.
SS 321 is an austenitic grade of stainless steel. 321 Stainless Steel Plate is designed with a chemical composition of 17% to 19% chromium and 9% to 12% of nickel. These plates are stabilized by the addition of titanium. Stainless Steel 321 Plate possessesenhanced resistance against corrosion and oxidation in different stress-induced systems. Designed to withstand temperatures up to 900 degrees C the SS 321 Plate has excellent intergranular corrosion resistance after heating or long exposure to carbide precipitation.
Most of the Stainless Steel 321 Sheet can be produced via hot or cold rolling procedures to produce components that meet the requirements of different types of applications. The high-strength 321 Stainless Steel Sheet shows good phase stability with enhanced resistance to scaling across aqueous systems. Similar to austenitic grades, SS 321 Sheet shows excellent forming and welding capacity. These modules show exceptional strength in low cryogenic temperatures as well. The 321 SS Sheet cannot be hardened by heat treatment. Its quality can be enhanced following the cold working process.
- SS 321 shows less susceptibility due to its lower carbon content when compared to the 304 grade.
- SS 304 is readily available in different shapes and sizes over the SS 321.
- Stainless steel 321 has slightly higher fatigue strength over the 304 stainless steel grade.

321 stainless steel vs 316 corrosion resistance
The 321 stainless steel grade is designed with a chemical concentration of 16% chromium, 10% nickel coupled with 2-3% of molybdenum. A 321 stainless steel grade is stabilized by titanium and has slightly higher chromium and nickel content over the 316 grade. However, the molybdenum content gives the 316 grade a slight edge over the 321 modules when it comes to the corrosion resistance properties of the metal.

321 stainless steel is composed of different properties to suit different applications. ASTM A240 Type 321 Plate is designed with superior mechanical properties. These modules have a minimum tensile strength of 515Mpa with a minimum yield strength of 215Mpa. An ASME SA240 321 Stainless Steel Sheet has a thickness of less than 6mm and can be easily elongated by a minimum of 40%. These sheets possess a maximum hardness of 95 Rockwell. The 321 SS hot Rolled Plate are processed at high temperatures and offer optimum strength and performance in high-temperature and pressure systems.
The Stainless Steel 321 Cold Rolled Plate is processed after the hot-rolling procedure. This gives the modules enhanced resistance against carbide precipitation. The Werkstoff No 1.4541 Coil is designed with a density of 8027 kg/m3, allowing them to be transported easily across different locations. SS 321 Perforated Sheet has a sturdy grip and torsion, having an elastic modulus of 193 GPA. The mean coefficient of thermal expansion in the structures is between 16.6 degrees C to 18.6 degrees C. The SUS 321 Foil,which is the thinnest metal grade has a thermal conductivity between 16.1 degrees C at 100 degrees C. The UNS S32100 Strip has an electrical resistivity of 720nΩ.m.
