In fact, Inconel 800 could be used in applications involving seawater or marine engineering purposes. This is possible owing to the fact that the UNS N08800 is free from not only chloride stress related corrosion cracking but also from intergranular corrosion, which in turn is caused by sensitisation.
In an annealed condition the Rockwell hardness value of Inconel 800 is 70. The alloy has a melting range between a temperature of 1357°C to 1385°C. In a cold Worked, annealed condition, the yield strength of Inconel 800 is 205 Mpa, whereas, in a hot finished annealed condition, its yield strength is about 170 Mpa. Similar to most Inconel alloys, Incoloy 800 has high impact strength at high temperatures and continues to have good toughness at cryogenic temperatures. Most of its corrosion resistance properties have been attributed to the addition of 30% to 35% of nickel in the alloy of UNS No 8800.
