Monel 400 Plate

What is Monel 400 Plates?

Monel 400 is an alloy that is hardenable only through cold cold working processes. A reason why this solid solution strengthened alloy is preferred to be used in marine engineering is because Monel 400 demonstrates a very low rate of corrosion when exposed to flowing seawater.

The SAE or as referred to by Society of Automotive Engineers specification AMS4544 caters to nickel-copper alloy Monel 400, produced in the form of sheet, strip, and plate. These components, as mentioned in the AMS4544, have a 67% Nickel and 30% Copper are supplied in an annealed condition, while offering good resistance to corrosion. The higher content of nickel in Alloy 400 is what imparts the metal to withstand elevated temperatures in addition to its good corrosion resistance properties.

In terms of its mechanical properties, the yield strength of UNS N04400 ranges between 172 MPa - 345 MPa, while its tensile strength is around 517 MPa - 620 MPa. The melting point of monel 400 ranges between 1300–1350 °C, and in an annealed state, its Rockwell hardness is valued at 65. While this alloy exhibits good tensile strength and hardness characteristics even at subzero temperatures, the impact resistance of Werkstoff Nr. 2.4360 undergoes a very minor change when the alloy has been cooled to the temperature of liquid hydrogen or liquid helium.

What is ASTM B127 UNS N04400 Sheet?

The ASTM B127 is a specification that covers plate, sheet, and strip produced from UNS No 4400. Similar to many other ASTM specifications, the ASTM B127 takes into consideration the requirements such as chemical and mechanical properties in addition to grain size & dimensions.
